Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. The R&A and USGA’s Distance Insight Report has been on everyone’s lips of late but talk has quickly turned to the rumours of a Premier Golf League which has the aim of revolutionising the game by 2022. With so much chatter about it, we decided to dig a little deeper to find out what it could mean. As usual, you will also find our regular features, so why not grab a coffee and have a look through. Last weekend was washed out a bit, but that did not stop the captains from driving in and a fun evening for all in the clubhouse. Best wishes for our captains Ann and Gerry and our junior captains Chloe and Callum. It was a windy, wet day, but all 4 performed admirably under the gazing eyes of our windswept members. Unfortunately, there was no competition but the food in the clubhouse, warm atmosphere and entertainment laid on by the two captains more than made up for it.

Newly arrived In the shop, we have had a few changes with a restock for the year ahead. We have the new SIM’s, Mavrik’s, TS2’s, Mizuno MP, G410’s all ready to be launched down our pristine fairways. It's starting to get close to that time when maybe the first bee will bounce off the window and people start thinking about the year ahead with their golf and equipment. The Drive-in last week, while the ceremonial start of our season, is quite close to the traditional kick-off at St Patrick’s day when the season really gets going. |

Wedges and putters There are not that many more products to land with the exception of the new Scotty Cameron putters and the eagerly awaited SM8 wedges. These always cause a stir as they are the market leaders no matter who tries to claim the title. But close on their heels this year are the Callaway JAWS wedge and the new PING Glide 3 that are exception products in their own rights, with completely individual features and benefits that may be even Mr Vokey will find it hard to match. |

The putters in the shop at this moment are exceptional. The new offerings from Odyssey are the best they have been in years with triple track markings in some of their original designs. These are all available to test so come in and have a look. The new Odyssey 10 looks remarkably like the most popular putter from TaylorMade, the spider, which is hardly surprising as the R&D coordinator from TaylorMade has moved over to Callaway/Odyssey. Well worth a look. Click here to request your demo/fitting. |
In fact, this year offering across the board from Callaway is in a different league to what has come before. There are two different sorts of swingers/strikers. The person that really traps the ball and then the most common club golfer who releases the club too early and swings at the ball. The rebound face technology in the new Mavrik Irons has so far, to my total surprise, destroyed anything that is in competition. On a fitting last week with this head a member gained 15% more ball speed with this head against what he was using and any other product we put in his hand. It happened and has happened several times since, so come in and have a look. |
Studio update In the hall, our swing room is almost complete and over the next few weeks, we will be getting to grips with it and will have a promotional launch in the near future so that all can see the technology that we will now have available in the clubhouse. It will really be able to allow us to up what we offer as the weather will no longer be a barrier to lessons and fittings. More information will follow next week when hopefully we will have it up and running. |
Breakaway league In a bid to combat a packed global schedule, the World Golf Group outlined a proposal that would bring together 48 of the best players in the world in an 18-event season with a total prize pool of £183 million. Already Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been approached about joining the Premier Golf League as it is being called although it is important to note that the league is nothing to do with either the PGA or European Tour’s with both making it clear that players would have to choose between one or the other. Could we be about to see a divide at the top of the game?

Junior coaching The Juniors will be on as normal, weather permitting at our normal time of 4pm on a Tuesday and Thursday. Hopefully when it gets a bit warmer and the time changes we will be back to summer times of 5pm and 6pm. |
Junior membership Very important note for the future of the club is that we currently have vacancies for junior membership and if there is anyone who you would like to join as a member or someone you know that is thinking of it please ask in the shop or office so that we can get them an application form. There is an exciting season ahead for the club, especially the juniors, and it would be great to be part of it.

A recent golf survey highlighted some very interesting statistics regarding golfers' habits and their equipment, two of which you can see in the image below. |
These stats might not mean a lot to you at face value, but the general recommendation is that you change your grips once a year, especially if you play regular golf. The truth is, grips lose their efficiency over time and when they do we end up gripping the club too tightly, which restricts our ability to swing the club freely. Just something for you to think about... | |
|
It's not only important that your grips are regularly replaced, but you need to ensure you get the correct sized grips. Our FREE grip fitting promotion has just started in-store and we recommend everyone giving it a try. Call us on 00353 419827170 to take advantage. |
