Welcome to this week's newsletter. It's really starting to get a bit wintery out there, but there is so much to look forward to over the coming months. It's only 3 weeks until the clocks change and the nights draw in. The new season will not be far away and the winter will hopefully just fly by with the captains driving in early in the new year and away we go. |
Come in while you still can! Watch out for storm Lorenzo as it sweeps in from the Atlantic this weekend, it will be destructive, and the golf club may blow down so this might be your last chance to really grab a bargain before we are all blown away!
We have quite a good stock of PING G410 drivers and fairways in stock as well as a few Titleist TS2 drivers and fairways. There is also a full selection and run of Odessey white hot pro putters. This is the last line of these as Callaway are stopping making them, which is a shame, as it is a premium brand putter at only €120. |
Stay warm out there
We are coming into the shorter days but the golf will be just as good as the course is actually returning to its prime after recovering from the drought in 2018. Get out on it and get wrapped up.
We have some great value in jumpers, outerwear, T-shirts and waterproofs etc to get you into the winter spirit and keep your desire to play golf alive. It is so important to stay warm when this time of the year comes around and a great starting point is making sure that you keep your head warm, so make sure you have a piece of thermal headwear in the bag. Follow that up with a nice pair of mitts or a pair of thermal gloves from the shop and you'll be good to go and brave the elements!

Callaway Apex Shoe
Its only at this time of the year when you go and play elsewhere that you really start to appreciate how good a surface we have to play on here at Laytown and Bettystown. When the other courses are starting to get really wet and mucky we are only coming into our prime.
We have some great stock that will be so good around our links this summer. In the shop I have taken in a full size run and colours on the Callaway Apex shoe. This would be a great shoe for our course over the winter and a great summer shoe anywhere else. It is premium design and build and Callaway pride themselves on straight out of the box comfort. They are waterproof and can be worn inside and out.
At €90 a pair these won't be around for long as they have been retailing at €159. For an extra €20 we will throw in a dozen Callaway Chrome soft balls worth €45. |
Balls We have a full stock of Callaway and Titleist balls in stock and don’t forget to start thinking about Christmas as the personalized ball programs will start to appear very soon so book early to make sure of delivery.

The golf market
It will be interesting to see what appears from the companies in the golf market for next year with TaylorMade set to launch quite early. This company has such highs and lows when it comes to equipment, but something tells me next season they could well hit the mark once again as it has been a few years since they have had that “wow” factor. The success of RBZ when it arrived, then the M1, M2 success faded with follow up sequels and just maybe this is their year to wallop us with another bazooka on the tee. It will be interesting to see, and I get a chance next week to see the product early so watch this space There is such a good selection of long and short game product at this moment with the latest Glide wedges and JAWS wedges in the shop. These are stunning and with the right technique and understanding of what they can actually do for you what a difference they can make. I feel through a real understanding of how the short game, long game, putting etc actually works the new equipment can make it such a joy to play good golf

Don't overcomplicate it!
A misunderstanding of every club in the bag can create all sorts of problems. We have 14 different clubs in the bag all with different jobs to do, and it is up to us to create one simple movement to allow the clubs to work properly. We are all guilty of trying to make shots happen and manipulate the result when it should be so much simpler to get our desired outcome. Golf instruction has really moved on, the understanding of how shots happen has become so much more methodical and scientific but this in turn has also simplified the golfer’s method. Having said that, the basics that we have all learnt and been taught are still the fundamentals of a good golf game. The grip, alignment, posture, ball position are even more important in the modern game as a lot of feel and reaction has been removed from the top end players. But the basics drive the modern methods and will never change.
If there is a shot or part of your game that you are really struggling with book a lesson, come in for a chat. If you are willing to open your mind to how simple this game can become you will really move forward. It is a game of logic, even though at times it seems illogical, but it is a sport as well and getting that understanding brings fast and easy results. Get in touch if you would like to book a lesson, or enquire. |
Junior coaching
Hopefully the weather improves a little over the next few days as our coaching this week has been wiped out as it is just not a place to be. Hopefully on Tuesday night the weather will improve enough for the junior lessons to continue for a few more weeks for the two hour stretch. Remember after Halloween we will be going to our winter timings of 3.45pm till dark, depending on the weather.

The popularity of Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs) has been growing for several years as golfers seek as much help as possible whilst out on the course. Our recent survey indicated that over 70% of you choose to use one, so we thought we'd highlight one of our favourites in this week's newsletter. |
| Garmin Approach S40 watch
|
|
GPS devices are not just about reading front, middle and back yardages. Well, in some cases they are, but not when it comes to Garmin’s Approach S40 watch. As we know, the course can be played several different ways and the Approach S40 displays distances to hazards and doglegs at a glance, which will prove vital when trying to take your course management to the next level.
|
In fact, at this time of the year when a wet course is a regular occurrence, knowing your yardages has never been more important. This is where the S40 comes into its own as it allows you to alter the pin's position on your watch so you can get highly accurate distances. Pretty clever stuff! We have a brilliant review video that you can view by clicking the link below. |
