Rugby World Cup in the clubhouse
This week sees the start of the Rugby World Cup, and the new caterers are gearing up for a busy few weeks. Let’s hope that Ireland gets ahold of this tournament and really keep a keen interest for all of us.
The guys upstairs will be serving breakfast and the bar will be open for all the Ireland matches so be sure to check in when you can and enjoy what is always a great day in front of the TV in the club. You can wear the Rugby shirt if you wish, just don’t start tackling each other - we would have to draw the line somewhere! |
Autumn/Winter work on the course There has been a lot of work going on the course in the last few weeks that should make sure that our course is in pristine condition going forward into the winter and next year. This has been the perfect weather to get the relevant work done, including the stitch-seeding of the fairways and the winter work on the greens. With 20 degrees of heat and water in the ground, it’s the perfect storm, so maybe mother nature has smiled on us for once after last year’s drought (that or Stephen is a bit of a soothsayer and knew what was on the way). |
Our friendly club We have been having great reviews and comments from all visitors to our course from overseas recently, and a lot of that is to do with the welcome that they have received from all in our club.
A special mention has to be made to Declan, our Captain, who has gone out of his way to be there to welcome and chat to the golfers - it does not go unnoticed. The welcome and friendliness of all members in the bar and restaurant has been exceptional. It was quoted from seasoned golfers from the USA that in all their travels and golf they have never felt as welcome and enjoyed the day so much anywhere.
Whilst I know we can all say these things, we don’t have to, so it’s great to hear that we have all been making all visitors feel welcome. |
New in the Shop
There are a few new products into the shop this week. Firstly we have the new Callaway Mack Daddy 5 wedges with the return of Jaws technology in the face. These wedges have really developed into a much more traditional looking shape, and the inclusion of this spin technology will result in a club that both appeals and performs to all standards of players.
We also have fully restocked on the ever popular White Hot Pro range from Odyssey, with the 2-Ball, No.7, and Rossie models. These are the last run of these clubs from Odyssey, and they are excellent value at €120 across the range for the leading brand on the putter market.

Limited edition range from Scotty Cameron
Also new in the shop, we have one of the limited edition Scotty Cameron T22 putters. 22 years after the release of Scotty Cameron’s groundbreaking and major-winning Teryllium-inserted putter design, the new 2019 Teryllium T22 limited edition putters deliver updated performance in three new putter models - the T22 Newport, T22 Newport 2 and T22 Fastback 1.5.
This range offers the same unmistakable feel of the originals, reimagined and updated for the demands of today’s golfers. This is a special offer from Titleist, as once these are gone, they are gone for good!
The original putters from 22 years ago regularly achieve €2000 in resale, so Titleist have released this putter to allow present Scotty Cameron enthusiasts the opportunity to purchase the same putter, albeit updated, in our present market.
If you are interested in this great-looking putter, contact us here or do come in and have a look. Please note that it cannot be taken out for a practice round.

New Titleist USeries irons We are still waiting on the new USeries Utility Irons from Titleist, a stunning-looking product that fits into the range perfectly, offering more distance than a standard iron and less spin than a hybrid. The new U-500 and U-510 Utility Irons (U-510 pictured right) are called so for a reason and are designed to expand your shot options at the top end of the bag. The USeries Utility Irons are about delivering that one shot you need precisely when you need it. Where a standard rescue wood will pop the ball up in the air from most lies, nice and soft, there are times especially on our tight links in the wind where the ball needs to be flighted down or you simply need to manufacture a feel shot. This is where the USeries Iron comes into its own. Other companies are also manufacturing very similar products with Callaway’s X Forged utility irons, PING’s Crossovers, and Mizuno’s new HMB range. Golf manufacturing never stands still and that is part of what makes it such an engrossing game to be involved in.

Goodbye laces. Hello Boa Technology in today's golf equipment continues to amaze us year-on-year, but it's not just our clubs that are making strides in the tech department. Believe it or not, golf shoes are some of the most advanced products in the market thanks to the evolution of the Boa Fit System, which is replacing traditional laces. Not only does it fasten your shoe, but when the Boa dial is on the heel of your shoe, it pulls your foot back and down to provide the perfect fit for extreme comfort and stability out on the course. |

This might sound a little complicated but just give us a chance on this one... Urethane vs Ionomer? Both are materials used on the cover of golf balls but what is the difference between them and how does each affect your game? |
TaylorMade TP5 - Urethane cover You'll usually find that balls at the premium end of the market, like the TP5 and TP5x, have Urethane covers due to its noticeably softer feel and fantastic feedback, which is why they're the go-to choice for many Tour pros.
|
TaylorMade Project (s) - Ionomer cover On the other hand, Ionomer is cheaper to produce which is why you'll find them on less expensive balls, like the Project (s). These balls tend to spin less off the tee, which is why Ionomer features on balls that prioritise distance over feel. |
