Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we recap on the Women’s British Open from Woburn, where it was a fairytale ending for a certain Japanese golfer. Enjoy the read! |
What's coming up
First week of the play-offs and its only August! In a month we will be at the end of the summer holidays, the football will be in full swing, the Rugby World Cup will be just around the corner and we will be heading towards the short nights, but there is a lot of golf and good weather before all that really kicks in. At the end of August we have the Ladies in action in Killarney in the All-Ireland senior cup finals and the same weekend we have the men competing in the Leinster finals at Blainroe. Hopefully, these two weekends will bring great results to the top end of our club in what has been quite a successful season.
Golf will take a back seat next week for a lot of us with the Fleadh descending on Drogheda for the week. Not so for the juniors with the captains, presidents and professional prize taking place on Tuesday, timesheet available in the shop for all. The traditional favourite day with goodies, buns and a bit of fun for all in the club this day. Prizegiving and photos will take place on Tuesday evening so there will be no junior lessons that night. Hopefully, this great run of weather will continue and it will be the enjoyable day it has always been.

What's new?
There are some great new products in the shop with the introduction of Glide 3.0 into the PING wedge range. These really look like players wedges will all the forgiveness and feel you would expect from a Ping club. There is the quirky looking eye 2 wedge in the glide family that really does what it is meant to, makes a mockery out of bunkers, big or small. These are available now for sale and custom fit so come in and ask. In the next few weeks, there will also be the new family of Titleist irons in the shop with the same as last year, a move away from AP1, 2 and 3 to a new T range to compliment the TS drivers and fairways. In all the excitement over PING, Callaway and TaylorMade this year the TS driver and fairway shave been slightly overlooked unless of course you actually tried them then you would probably have them in the bag. They are mid-cycle and are well worth a look. There are the new additions of TS1 and TS4, two completely new models, both with completely different abilities, designed for different ability. Mizuno about to launch new MP20 range, going back to what they did best with a copper sub skin under the chrome. This helps the forged iron keep a more consistent attachment to the playing surface while also softening down the already great feel of this company’s product. These will have to be a must look for anyone looking for something just a little bit personal and niche. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea until you hit them. What an exciting time for top-end iron production with both Titleist and Mizuno, (the tour’s top 2) releasing quality new products. As ever deals on these products are always better at the start, so don’t miss out.
We are full to the brim on accessories, balls, T-shirts, Outerwear, water wear, shoes all at extremely competitive prices. |
No need to look anywhere else!
Look on Mcguirks website, they have a 20% sale on everything and we will match these prices no problem, we might even be able to beat them by a few euros! Have a look and see if there is anything that grabs you, anything that you are looking for, ask us first if we can get it. One big thing this year and always very important is our golf bag, we have a full range of Waterproof bags from Callaway and Powakaddy and will be looking to move these on before the season starts to slow down….It’s the best time to buy, you’ll need it in the winter but won’t get it at the price we are selling at this moment. It’s like going to buy sunscreen at Christmas or a ski Jacket in June…come in and ask.
On the Powakaddy our business is gaining huge momentum with this company, we are now one of the top green grass suppliers of the award-winning FW range and simply cannot be beaten on price. Delivery on these is only 3/4 days and mostly have at least an FW3 in stock. Get one, your game will improve for a variety of reasons. |
Custom fitting
There is custom fitting available with the trackman through myself, Phil and Cian at any time booked in advance. Also gapping sessions, skills tests and appraisals are all there so come in and talk about how these could help your game. |
Smiling Cinderella wins at Woburn… It was a fairytale ending for ladies Japanese golfer, Hinako Shibuno, who made her first competitive start outside Japan a special one by winning the AIG Women’s British Open at Woburn this weekend. Nicknamed ‘Smiling Cinderella’ for her happy approach out on the course, she made light work of the back nine of the Marquess course all week carding an 18-under par total. |
American Lizette Salas missed a putt on the last to potentially force a play-off, but did secure second place on her own and all but assure her spot on the American Solheim Cup Team this September at Gleneagles.
Home hopes faded on the final day with Charley Hull, Georgia Hall and Bronte Law all shooting over-par rounds, however, they will look to bounce back at the Ladies Scottish Open this week. |

Mathematics can be a complicated subject with all that pi, algebra and calculus floating around, but there is one simple equation we can all understand: uncomfortable golf shoes = a miserable time for all
|
| Skechers Mojo Elite shoes |
|
Let’s break down this equation further The main problem here is that walking on hard ground for four hours/18 holes in the summer months can take its toll on our feet. Blisters and bleeding are common signs that something isn't quite right and the issue will only be exasperated if your golf shoes are worn, cracking or ill-fitting.
|
So, what’s the answer? After running the numbers through our super-computer, we end up with a pair of golf shoes that are designed for comfort, like Skechers’ Mojo Elite. It boasts Ultra Flight underfoot cushioning, which will have you feeling like you're walking on the clouds for the entirity of your round. Why not pop in the shop and try a pair on this summer? |
