Callaway Epic Flash We are now fully stocked now with Callaway Epic Flash drivers and fairways that really send out a message off the tee to any hole that would have appeared too long a few seasons ago. These two products are really worth a look and as ever, no one will beat us on price on any of these new products.

Vokey wedges We are also fully stocked on the full range of Vokey wedges throughout the lofts, bounces and grinds, they are in the shop now. I have written before about the need to understand what the correct bounce and grind can do for your game and understanding this can be the most important thing to work on in your short game. The bounce on the sole makes a dramatic impact on the way the club reacts when it hits the turf. I think sometimes when you see the leading edge sitting up a bit from the ground, it gives the impression that you cannot get the ball “in under” the ball to get it airbourne, when in fact the motion to play the shot is completely different. We forget that the ground will give a little when the club hits the ground. The bounce will only make it easier to play the shot of a tight lie as it will give you real room for error. Even though a club with less bounce appears to sit better on the ground it will make the need for exactness through impact so much more important and will result in so many more missed shots. Come in and talk to us about the bounce and what it can do for you, you will be surprised.

Putter haven The shop at present is a putter haven with all the new models from Odessey golf available as well and a full range of PING putters too. There are different putting strokes for every player that result in different heads doing different things for your game. Gone is the time that merely liking the look of a head makes it right for your game. Face balanced and heal/toe weighted putters react to two completely different strokes and this can be important when choosing the correct head. If you tend to swing the putter straight back and through it is important to use a face balanced head and if you have an in to square to in stroke then you will need a heel toe weighted putter. This can have a real impact on the way the putter reacts at impact and is a part of the game, like the wedges that is easily ignored. |
Competitions update The twos are building up now with the year well and truly in full flow and I will have an update on all twos in my newsletter next week, as well as our twos league for the year. Remember it is the captains drive in on Saturday 16th February, so make sure that you are about for this. It is the real starting point for the year ahead and a great chance to wish the captains all the best – as well as watch them whack as ball of the tee!

Double delight for American duo… There were victories for two of Team USA’s Ryder Cup stalwarts over the weekend, with Rickie Fowler overcoming a major blip on Sunday afternoon to hold-on to his overnight lead and claim the atmospheric Waste Management Phoenix Open, whilst big-hitting Dustin Johnson secured his first regular European Tour title at the inaugural Saudi Arabia International tournament. Fowler’s final round wasn’t without incident, with one of the strangest dropping procedures taking place on the 11th hole leading to a triple bogey seven. Rickie’s chip shot on the 11th lacked spin and skidded through the damp green into the water just missing a bunker. After taking his penalty drop, Rickie walked to the green to view his options, and during this time his ball rolled back into the water. This led to some confusion between Rickie and his playing partners, but a rules official deemed the ball to be in play so another penalty drop was needed! Luckily he made the resulting putt to escape with a seven and go onto to win with impressive birdies on the closing stretch. Click here if you have a rules question for me.

New shoes? Walk this way... |
Golf is first and foremost a walking sport, with many of us strolling more than five miles in a pair of shoes every single round. You might read that fact and instantly recall getting off the 18th green wanting nothing more than a sit-down, feet aching, after realising your shoes aren’t as comfortable as they ought to be. Well, if that is the case, it might well be time for a change... |
Just arrived - Under Armour Spieth 3 This is the third generation of the Spieth shoe, which - as you can probably guess - has been designed on the back of feedback from superstar Jordan Spieth. It continues with a huge focus on traction and power, with its Rotational Resistance outsole helping you to grip the ground on every shot. In addition to this and its lightweight flexibility, the Spieth 3 also has a Gore-Tex membrane for complete waterproof protection - essential for golf in the UK! |
