What Will New Equipment do For You?
With new product hitting the shelves and huge marketing campaigns behind them the question always has to be asked, what will it do for your game? Yes there are always improvements in products as bit by bit the companies are trying to find the ultimate product to make golf more and more enjoyable for the general weekend golfer. They are getting more and more expensive as well so don’t be fooled into thinking that this year’s driver will massively outperform last year’s club. Clubs tend to come and go in cycles and anything that has been released in the last few years will be very similar. Having said that a club that is maybe 3-4 models back you will see a marked improvement. You can see design cycles in clubs. For example G10, G15 and G20 from PING are all very similar in design the new have G25 that moved the bar completely. The only real difference from G25 to G30 was the addition of “turbulator” technology to reduce drag and the addition of G and G400 have only enhanced the G25 head. In essence what I am trying to say is that any performance differences between G25 and G400 will be minimal. The difference between G400 and G20 however will be huge. That means for the last 6-7 years PING in essence have only been improving a certain model. The big, and sometimes hard change, is moving from an older model to a newer one. When customers hit a newer club no matter how much the figures tell you it is right for you sometimes it can be just too much of a change as your swing has over a period of time adjusted to the club that you are swinging. It could be completely wrong for you but you have adjusted to make it work and get the most out of it. When something with a different swing weight, length, launch characteristics etc is put in your hand it can feel completely wrong and will take a while to adjust to it. The important thing in a club change is to give it a chance and stick with it. A club that seems to have lost distance immediately could find you an extra 10-15% over a period of time if you are willing to give it a chance. Golf while simple, can get complicated in our minds, it is a mechanical movement that just requires consistency….and belief. We do have all the things you need to show you what is right and wrong with our trackman and fitting components for the clubs so if you are contemplating a change just ask.
