How will you spend your winter?
What will you do over the coming months to get ready for the golf season in 2019, sit at home and watch TV, eat plenty of Christmas turkey, pies and cakes or plan for a great season of golf? This is the best time to get lessons and get things in order for the season ahead. Little grip changes, posture changes, to learn a new shot, should all happen in the off season so that you hit the ground running when the nights start to get a bit longer. Even time to look at your grips and clubs to see if they need a bit of a spruce up. We have great deals on re-grips etc in the shop so drop them in, it can be cheaper than a new set of clubs, and can be just as effective.

Email Database - are you registered?
We are really trying to build up our database after the whack GDPR gave us and would ask you to register, if you have not, and create your profile so that you get all the information that is required to help you enjoy your golf and get the right information. Extra to the newsletters we have mail shots that are geared to the individual customers, you don’t want to be playing of a high handicap and getting information about the latest tour players iron, and you certainly don’t want to be one of our lady members getting a mail about the latest men’s wetsuit and vice versa…. Although with Christmas not to far away maybe that might be a good thing. Your profile can be easily set up through our website, scottkirkpatrick-golf.com, so make sure you get it sorted to make sure you are getting the info you need.

Course update
It has been a real tough year for the course and it is showing signs of the wear and tear that the weather inflicted on it. Stephen has been treating the weak areas with a seeding program around the fringes and in areas of the fairways that have really suffered. It will take a while for the course to recover, but nature has a way of righting itself so hopefully we will see the results soon. The links land is so much more fragile than the clay based parkland course s that seem to recover so much quicker from these sorts of weather conditions. They all look amazing at this moment and are playing like mid summer, but all that will change in the coming months with the winter rains and cold weather, if it comes. We do suffer on the course, through its natural design and layout, from areas that get more abuse than others and that is an issue that the course staff will try and look at over the winter period and come up with solutions that can make the course so much more playable and enjoyable. This could mean a few little changes in how the grass is cut, or the reshaping of a few areas, but everything is done with a reason, to improve the quality of the course laid out before you. On the flip side of this our overseas visitors have had nothing but praise for the challenge that our great links has presented to them over the season just gone and it only seems to be getting busier. A big lot of this is down to the work that Jack and his business team are doing behind the scenes and hopefully this will only get stronger as the following seasons come upon us.

Shoe SALE
We are having a shoe sale in the shop at this moment with pairs of shoes starting at 30 euro a pair, nearly all of them are at least 50% OFF suggested retail. Come in and get them before we run out of your size. They all come with a full guarantee and when they are sold they are sold. Next week we will start with something else in the shop and clear through the stock to make way for the winter that is closing in on us quite quickly. Another storm just around the corner, almost a year to the date that the country closed down for Ophelia last year. Hopefully the snow is not quick on its heels.

Wrap up warm
Once it gets a bit cooler it is important to make sure that we stay wrapped up and warm. Headwear is a must and we have new winter hats and mitts in the shop to keep you warm out on the course. A hat is a must and its importance can not be underestimated so as they say, do not leave home, or the shop, without one. We will also from the start of next week have a new selection of outerwear and compression wear from Galvin Green, FooJoy and Stuburt golf in the shop. A new selection of Galvin Green waterproofs will follow at the start of November and a lovely new suit from PING will be in very shortly. We already have a new winter suit for the ladies in from PING.

Junior lessons
Our lessons for the juniors are really popular at this moment and are running at 4.30 and 5.30 on a Tuesday and Thursday for a few more weeks. After the mid term break we will be starting again at 3.45 in the afternoons and the lesson at 1pm on Saturday will continue, all depending on the weather. Always check in with the shop to make sure that they are on. Can I stress to the parents that it is so important that the juniors behave on the range and do what they are asked to do as while it is a game, it can be very dangerous with balls and clubs flying around. |
Ladies lessons
Our ladies lessons will be on again on Tuesday and we will be up at the far end of the range. This will be the last one this side of Halloween and will be working really on whatever each individual wants to do, be it short game, long game or putting. |
Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take TaylorMade for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its iconic r7 Quad driver way back in 2004. The r7 was memorable for introducing the then-revolutionary concept of changeable weights in a driver, which was a massive shift from the conventional 'one weight fits all' approach. The r7 Quad is a classic club, and is certainly remembered with fondness. Fast-forward to the present day and TaylorMade has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of the M3. The M3 really shows just how far we've come in terms of moveable weights, with a Y-Track feature that allows golfers to adjust their settings for optimal trajectory, maximum forgiveness, or less spin. So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the M3. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the M3 with as much fondness as the r7 Quad! |
