Leinster U15 Final We are into August now and the weather is a little unsettled but still a joy to be out in. This weekend our juniors are in the final of the Leinster U15 tournament at Edmundstown on Saturday at 11am. These are a great bunch of juniors, they drive us mad at times in the shop, but they are the nicest kids and best of friends and all support would be appreciated for this event.
Our biggest junior day of the year
This Friday 3rd will be our biggest junior day of the year with our Men’s and Ladies’ Captains and President’s Prize to the juniors as well as the Professional Prize to the juniors. There will be great excitement and enthusiasm for the golf with the lure of drinks, buns and sweets throughout the day. The whole day kicks of at 8.30am with competitions running throughout the day and our prize giving from 5pm onwards. Growing girls golf!
This week our junior convener Denis and club Captain Bryan launched an initiative to encourage more of our junior girls into playing golf. We have a large membership of boys and girls in our club and many clubs fall down by simply getting the numbers in and then leaving them to play or not play without any real consideration. This was great to get the input from the girls and parents and we had a fun night straight away the following evening for all the girls with great attendance and hopefully this will only grow as the summer go on. On this point I would like to thank Denis and Bryan on behalf of the juniors for tis effort as I know from being around other clubs there would not be that sort of enthusiasm and commitment everywhere. We are very lucky to have people with this sort of commitment and hopefully we will have Mary with the girls after her injury in the near future. Representing the club
This weekend sees the last real Major of the golfing season for our top amateurs with the Irish Close being played at the European Club with a large representation from our Club. Last week we had Eugene and Jack meeting in the quarter final of the South with Jack winning only to be beaten in the semi final. This week also Alex is playing in the GB & Ireland Boys Championship in Royal Portrush and for both events any support would be welcome. The club has real strength in depth throughout and hopefully in the future there will be a victory or two.
Plan for the future
In the background there are plans for both the clubhouse development as well as an ongoing pursuit of opening our club to the world with and increase in visitors and guests. In about 1 month our new website will be ready to launch and this will really show the rugged beauty and traditional values of our links course here at Laytown and Bettystown. At times in this IT world things like this go unnoticed and are just another “another” so to speak. But this will be different, this will launch our club into a completely new phase of digital presence in such a competitive market place. The work that has gone on behind this has been really big and hopefully you will be stunned by the imagery and content on this new platform. Going into 2019 with the open in Royal Portrush this could not come at better time as Ireland will really welcome the world of golf to its shores.
