Ireland triumph as others impress Whilst many of you spent the Bank Holiday weekend basking in glorious sunshine – and we don’t blame you – 16 pairs battled it out in the second edition of GolfSixes. Split into four round-robin groups to begin with, only the top two pairs from each could proceed to the quarter-final stage, which saw both all-female teams (England Women and European Women) make it through to the final eight. Sadly, both female teams failed to advance to the semi-finals, with England Women losing out to eventual winners Ireland, represented by Gavin Moynihan (who has failed to make a single cut so far this season) and Paul Dunne. Ahead of golf’s unofficial fifth major taking place at TPC Sawgrass this weekend, Australia’s Jason Day has returned to world’s top 10 after a superb display at the Wells Fargo Championship. Taking place at Quail Hollow – the scene of last year’s PGA Championship – Day shot a gritty 69 on Sunday to finish two clear of his nearest challenger, admitting afterwards that he ‘had no idea where the ball was going, especially off the tee.’ For those of you wondering, yes Tiger Woods did play but he finished in a lowly tied 55th. here. |
Finding what works for you
We are delighted to announce we now have a full selection of custom fit options for TaylorMade and have been fitting irons and drivers on the range this week. We can now do a full fit on Callaway, TaylorMade and PING on irons and woods. With TrackMan technology we can find the best solution for you.
As with the clubs the ball is so important to how you perform on the course and the consistency the right or wrong ball will bring.
What choices we have now with the Tour balls are Bridgestone, Callaway, TaylorMade and Titleist. These are all available in the Shop along with all other balls to fill every need for all golfers. |

How technology has changed Golf
The advances in ball technology has been huge and many will argue that the ball is more influential on the games development than the clubs. It flies further, is steadier in the air along with being so much more durable. It has its downfalls as with these advances it has lost a bit of its spin and total control for the most highly skilled player.
The development of the modern ball and its equipment has co-incided with the careers of some of the modern greats of the game. It has added longevity to some of their careers while at the same time caused struggles for other players. In all that comes in golf we must look at the modern benchmark figure of Tiger Woods and how his career has progressed.
He has had all sorts of injuries in pursuit of his goal of perfection and many have asked the question as to why he even attempted to change the way he played golf and swung the club. His first real issues off the tee started to materialize when the modern MOI driver straightened to ball flight making it so much harder for the highly skilled player to shape the ball at will.
It has turned into a Smash and Bash sort of game built around the simple need to hit the ball hard in the direction you need it to fly. Players that grew up shaping the ball at will struggle a bit, it can be very hard as a drawer or fader of the ball to take dead aim and hit it, unless that is what you have grown up with. Leading on from this the game has become more enjoyable and playable for all standards of players. It has become simpler and easier if you can open your mind to its requirements. That is why the modern equipment can be a joy or a menace depending on which hand is holding it. |
Perfect for cooler rounds Yes, we've enjoyed a record-breaking Early May Bank Holiday weekend without a sweater in sight, but the reality is temperatures will soon get a little cooler over the coming days. To combat the chill whilst on the course, especially early mornings or late evenings, consider a ProQuip quilted windproof, which provide lightweight warmth whilst blocking out any wind. |

Ladies
Next week our ladies ‘Get into Golf’ lessons will take place again on Monday night at 6pm and our ladies lessons will be at 11am on Tuesday and at 6.30 pm on Wednesday.
These groups are limited to 8 players per session so please book in the Shop if you are planning to attend.
|
Juniors
Our Junior coaching will take place on Tuesday at 5pm and 6pm as well as Thursday at the same time. Same as the ladies our groups are limited so please book to avoid disappointment. The weather ruined our lesson program this week so nest week we will be covering what we should have done this week, short to medium length pitch shots. The following week we will be up at the pitching green working on bunkers, short chips and how to play out of rough…before the rough starts to jump up and annoy us. |
Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The Under Armour Spieth 2 can help you do this thanks to its unique Rotational Resistance cleats that will give you traction in every direction across all terrains. |
