Club crested clothing We have a new selection of club wear from both PING and FootJoy ready for the new season and this will really start to appear over the first week in May. Hopefully along with the big orange thing in the sky, that appears to be a bit shy these days. |
Always worth asking! There is so much exciting product in the golf industry at this moment in time and if we do not have something that you are looking for please ask, if we can get it we will, but if not we will get you something or at least let you try something just as good. |
US Open Sweepstake It is not that far away till the next Major of the year, The US Open at Shinecock Hills and we will be starting a US Open Draw for this tournament. The cost will be 10 euros a line and we will also be putting that money on to your shop credit after the tournament if you are not one of the lucky winners. So in essence it is a free bet as even if you loose the 10 euros, it can still be spent in the shop going forward. First prize will be a Powakaddy FW3 trolley and we will be going down to 5 prizes all of great quality. There will only be 156 places in the field and this will fill up quick so make sure you get in early. |
The standards are rising Golf is getting better and better through the understanding of both the swing and the developments in technology form the major companies. It is true that there is not quite as much skill needed to produce stunning golf shots on the course, but there are so many other components that add up to the complete package. The right clubs, the right ball, the right fitness, the right mental frame of mind and all these add up to a more enjoyable experience on the course. The good players are playing great and the average players are getting better, this encourages much more participation in our great game. |
Hitter or swinger? Going through the bag we start with the driver. The modern driver combines both distance and accuracy. They all look different and feel different, but will produce the same outcome. There are two real sorts of players, the hitter and swinger. The hitter, well, just hits the ball much more of the face and will more than likely prefer the feel of a harder impact that comes with the likes of a TaylorMade. In contrast a player with a slower swing and more rhythmical will prefer the feel of a PING as it sort of gathers the ball and feel so much softer off the face. Both will do the same job, but at this end of the market it comes down to what the player likes and dislikes. If you would be looking for a new driver we can custom fit you on the range for the head and shaft that suits your game the best so just let us know if you would like to have a look at this.

Group lessons Unfortunately, our ladies’ lessons were postponed this week with the weather, but we will try again on Tuesday morning at 11am so make sure you get your name down for the sessions at 11am and 12.30pm, as well as 6.30pm on Wednesday night as we are limited to 8 players per session. Hopefully like planned last week we will be starting with the short game with chipping and putting that will take place at the far end of the driving range so we will meet around the shop just before 11am. The juniors have taken a hammering as well, but hopefully with the start of May this will all return to normal. The junior lessons are at 5pm and 6pm Tuesday and Thursday and we will be doing the same as the ladies at the top of the driving range. As with the ladies the groups are limited, in case 12, so please make sure they are booked in as simply for health and safety reasons we cannot take any more.

Winter is finally over... The golf course has recovered so quickly from the work that was done on the greens and really in a few weeks we should have the putting surfaces back to the way they were a few weeks ago. Stephen has been using a wetting agent on the grass to lock in the moisture and firm up the root structure to really enhance and develop the playing surfaces. The course is the primary concern for the club as it is the reason for being here and with Russell working away in the background and the involvement of our agronomist consultants the improvements should be evident as the summer progresses. |

[* END *] Urethane cover? So what... |
A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common… |
Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials. Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots. However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative. |
|
| As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing. |
