Group Lessons
Next week in our group lessons we will be working on the middle part of the game, with all our focus being on the use of fairway woods and irons. The group lessons will be as normal on Tuesday morning at 11 am and Wednesday evening at 7pm for the ladies.
The juniors will start at 5.30 on Tuesday and depending on numbers will go through the evening. Due to the large numbers of juniors, we are now starting a booking system that each junior needs to be registered in the shop before going out. We will be limiting each group to 10 juniors. When the first group fills up, we will then start another group at 6.30 and so on throughout the evening.
Please phone the shop on 041 9827170 (option 1) to book in as we want everyone to be both safe and learn properly. When the numbers get too big the juniors just don't get enough time each to learn what we are doing each evening. It is great to see the interest and every junior is really starting to improve dramatically each week. We would encourage the parents if possible to come out to see what goes on and take an active part in what we do. The lessons will also be on Thursday evenings as normal with the same booking rules. Saturday from 1-2 will be left the way it has been as just show up as we have been quiet enough at this time.
There will be no lessons this Saturday as it is Holly's communion and don't think my life would be worth it to miss.
Drive For Show, Putt For Dough?
There are two real important areas to playing golf, both of which can be neglected in different ways. There is an old saying in golf that you drive for show and putt for dough, which to a point is true, but if you can't get the ball off the tee it doesn't matter how well you putt, as it means nothing by then anyway.
We all tend to think that we can simply fix this by buying the latest driver when a few minutes on the range and a change of maybe thought can change everything off the tee. There are a great variety of drivers available as well, so don't feel too shy about wanting to try this option.
We also fall down by practicing our putting, but maybe not investing in the right sort of putter for the sort of stroke that we have. I have said this before that we have no problem paying 400 for a driver, but shy away from spending anything on our putting, the club that we all use the most in around of golf.
Professional's Prize
Thank you to all the members that played last week in my Professional's Prize. It was a great day with both the weather and with the scores. Congratulations go to John Walsh with his winning score of 42 points; all those cold winter mornings paid off as John has really got his teeth into the game and as he proclaimed after not being too well he had well and truly made his comeback!
Special congrats go to Pat for holding off mental abuse and banter in the shop to claim the number 1 spot on the count back against a very determined, and some might say misguided, Dan who had a point to prove.
After a whole winter lay off, Pat came out on top having been written off by Desperate Dan, a full time golfer some might say.
