Pros news

The Weather Is Grand

What a couple of weeks we have had in the club without a cloud in the sky and the results can be seen on the course with the grass burnt away and the ball running a long, long way. It is real traditional links golf at its best and hopefully these dry spring conditions will result in the course being at its best for the long summer ahead. Its not quite T-Shirt weather yet as there is still a real nip in the air with the cold wind but the heat is really not that far away.

Shop news

Club Crested Shirts

We have a lovely new range of club crested shirts and plain shirts in stock for the summer ahead and will be adding to them as the weeks and months go on. It can be very hard to get an exact feel for the exact shirt that people want with different styles, colours fits etc. so if there is something that you cant see, ask us and we will try, cant promise but will try to see if we can get it.

Rory Joins The Ranks

Is there really anything new in the market, the answer is no at present, but why would there be as the off season produced some of the finest golf equipment to come on display in recent years. TaylorMade have certainly hit golf this week, along with their new staff player Rory, now when we look at the top performing players there seems to be a consistent denominator.

DJ, Rory, John Rahm, Sergio, Jason Day, Justin Rose, all with the same equipment, the fallen idol of Tiger in the background with the same equipment! There has been a lot of chit chat in the golf circles about the future of this brand. These players can play with anything, they choose TM… could be the money, could be the product, definitely a bit of both.

You can try these clubs in Irons and woods any time on the course. You can also demo the latest in Callaway, PING, Mizuno and Titleist, just come in and ask. What you will find that all of these brands will perform exceptionally, but one will stick out as your favorite. There is not one better than the next in your hands, it is what you prefer and are comfortable with so don't feel like you are losing out by picking one brand over another, unless of course the company is going throw you a big signing on fee like Rory.

Putter Fitting Success

Lately our hot product has been PING, by a long shot. The driver, fairways and rescues are rock solid, the irons are soft and long, the wedges look and feel great. On Monday, we had a PING putter fitting day and it was surprising to many how you have been using the wrong equipment hampering the most important part of the game. There is one thing that PING do better than most, they custom fit to a tried and tested method through easy steps that do not overcomplicate the issues at hand.

Coaching news

Group Lessons

The ladies in golf started on Monday night with a good turnout of ladies getting the feel for hitting balls on the green. On Monday night we will be out on the practice area getting to grips with the basics of the golf swing.

Our ladies group lessons on Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening will be concentrating on the long pitch shot as will the junior lessons that will be as normal on Tuesday and Thursday. For the next two Saturdays there will not be any junior coaching at 1pm, due to the busy communion season, but will be back on Saturday 27th May.

Club teams

Doing Well

All our teams are performing well and moving through the early rounds against the other clubs. Hopefully towards the end of the season we will have a few finals to look forward to. The entries for the club matchplays are in the shop so get your name down soon.

This week the Irish amateur championship is on at Royal Co. Down and we have a great representation from the club. It would be a great event to go and support the guys at an unbelievable venue, as long as the weather holds. You can check their progress at the GUI webpage as the weekend goes on.
