New Clothing Arriving Daily
We have the start of our new summer stock arriving as this is going out. We have a great club range to get the season started with a full selection of FootJoy Men's and Ladies' chill out tops and club T-shirts now in stock.
Following this will be a new range from Greg Norman in Club wear. We already have a new ladies trouser in Navy in the shop for the season ahead. While stock lasts we will be doing a Lyle & Scott jumper and club T-shirt for €100.
At the start of next week our summer Under Armour clothing will arrive and while we might not have it all on display, we have it in stock so please come in and ask if you are looking for something bright and new to get the season started.
Who Will Top Hardware This Year?
In regards to new hardware, things have gone a bit quiet after a lot of new launch products from the big players at the start of the year. PING seem to have stolen a march on their competitors with the i200 irons, that are doing exactly what they say it does.
It is sold as a players irons for any standard of player and the stats that we got back from the fitting day confirmed this theory. What a club, and along with this they have developed a fantastic club for the ladies range in the G Le series, all of these are available to test in shop.
By next week we will have a couple of full sets of TaylorMade for demo, all the way through the bag for ladies and gents. The season has started slow for TaylorMade after lasts year's bumper start to the M series, but as the sun comes out, and the serious warm weather golfers hit the fairways, this will once again be the season winner for the heavy artillery from the tee and fairway.
There are great offers to be had on this product at this moment, but as the season wears on believe it or not, supply will be outstripped by demand like last year and this will be the hardest product to get your hands on….well, that is what the rep told me, he likes a beer or two.
The Callaway Epic has come and maybe gone briefly, I think it will all come down to next week at The Masters to see the leading brand in this high cost division. Will Tiger play? I hope he does, I think we all do.
The Masters Kicks It All Off
Next week really starts our season off with the lush fairways of Augusta and the vast array of flowers and the dreams of what lies ahead for all of this on the course this year. It is at this time we all make promises to ourselves and bets with our mates about the goals for the season ahead.
Scratch Cup
Last weekend saw a glimpse of what goes into being a modern player with our Scratch Cup bringing the best amateurs from all over the country to L&B to test themselves against what we heard would be a soft challenge. The rough was gone, the greens were slick and we had a nice solid breeze to test these guys. Ryan McKinstry came out on top with a 2 under par score of 140, the only person in the field to break par for 36 holes.
This score was down to a couple of reasons, not that our top players didn't perform, they did, but perhaps their levels of expectations were much higher than they had thought through. A lot of them had not played the course and were going by what they had been told. This is why we had such a great field of players and tensions were high amongst them as they knew it was a great platform to compete and perform against the guys they would be playing with the rest of the season.
The course set-up was excellent and the comments and feedback we received from all that competed was one of surprise and delight at the test of golf that was presented to them by our supposed short and easy course. All competitors left on Sunday with a different view of the quality and challenge of our club, something that many of us take for granted.
I hope that this can become a regular fixture with both the club and GUI and it can continue to grow into a major scratch cup for years to come.
Club Matches
In the excitement of last weekend, a couple of notable performances past without notice. Our Fred Daly team came through a difficult fixture against Seapoint with our new Junior Captain David holding it together on the last to claim the winning point.
The mixed foursomes came through what would have been a difficult fixture against Ardee and progressed to the next round so the club is off to a winning start on all fronts.
Juniors and Ladies
Coaching for the juniors and ladies will be as normal next week, with the exception of Saturday, 8 April as there will no junior coaching that day.
