Pros news

Its getting really close to the start of the long nights and the start of the golfing season when we can hopefully swing without being all covered up with warm weather gear. We are getting ready to swop over to summer in the shop with the arrival of our new club wear from FootJoy for men, ladies and juniors that will be on sale from 1st March. This will be closely followed by a full summer range from Under Armour, Mizuno golf shoes, Stuburt golf shoes and outerwear, Callaway and adidas clothing and shoes. We are currently sorting out the shop to give us a bit more space but will be holding all sizes in stock so if you don't see it, just ask, as we will have a full size run in stock.

What will be the big player in the ball market this year? It has always been Titleist but the choices just keep getting bigger and better. This year we will be stocking the new Callaway Chrome Soft X, the New TaylorMade TP5 and X, the Mizuno MP ball and after much asking will also be holding Srixon balls in stock as well. We would have probably stocked Bridgestone after the Tiger story, but will be surprised if we see him putting too many of those in play this season, lets hope for golf's sake I am wrong.

There really is not a bad ball on sale in golf and it is part of the golf story that has largely gone unnoticed in the race to the top of the equipment stakes from the major players. Just like a shaft in your club, it is important to consistently play with the same sort/spec of ball as all the companies produce a wide range of balls that perform completely different tasks. For example, last year when having a lesson with Butch he enquired as to what ball I played. On telling him I played the Pro V1 he told be " give myself a pat on the back with an extra 30 yards of the tee" by putting the velocity ball into play. He was right, the unfortunate thing is that the distance is still there with a wedge in my hand as well. Many of us use the wrong ball as we forget what the most important thing we need for own game may not reflect in the ball we tee it up with. It is a very scientific part of the game and it is the least understood in all of our bags.

What ball would be right for you? Are you looking for distance, are you looking for back spin, how do you play your short shorts, do you let them bounce and run or are you a spinner of the ball, we are all different. Come in and ask, I will always give you the correct advice on this selection.

Our new range of ladies club sweaters have arrived in the shop, in v-neck, round neck, short sleeve and zip neck styles in the newly selected Lagoon colour. These are to compliment the existing navy colour that the club currently wears for both men and ladies so come in and ask if you don't immediately find the product in the shop.

As said in my last email we will be building towards a really big St. Patricks Day sale that will run all weekend from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th March. Many items will be up to 50% OFF for that weekend only and next week will introduce a selection of stock to expect in this sale. It will be both in hardware golf wear ranging head to foot. More details will follow.

Junior news

With a new intake of junior golfers coming into the club we will really be stepping up the junior section in the shop as well as the coaching for the incoming season. We have over 20 new junior members that will start introduction coaching next Saturday 4th March. We are currently creating a junior section in the shop and will have all sizes of individual clubs and sets in the shop at all times. We also have a full range of club hoodies, T-Shirts and junior hats as well as the new FootJoy range of Chill outs and T-Shirts. There is also a full stock of junior golf shoes.

The junior lessons will start up again on Tuesday 28th February at 4pm till 5pm and then the same time on Thursday evening and at 1pm on Saturday as well. Once the clocks change we will revert straight back to our summer schedule at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Thursday and 1pm on Saturday. If numbers get too big we will introduce other times as well but will let you know this through this email. The girls junior golf on a Sunday will start up again towards the end of April/beginning of May and will let you know exactly when. On top of this there will be a boys Sunday afternoon get together as well, more details to follow.

Club news

A couple of weeks ago an email was sent out regarding the club being open for society golf this season and if you know, or are a member, of a society that have not played at L&B for a while please get in touch. We are totally open for new business and have a new pricing structure in place to suit the needs of the modern society. Having said that we do not have a huge amount of space for the summer ahead at peak times so if interested please get in touch soon to avoid disappointment.

Tour news

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
