Pros news

The weather has turned a bit nasty over the past few days with high winds and rain making golf maybe not the pleasure it was over Christmas and January. Having said that the course is in great shape and if you are brave enough to venture out it will be well worth it. We have really started to get ready for the new season in the shop and are fully stocked now with all the latest offerings from the big companies. PING, TaylorMade, Callaway and Titleist are in full stock in store with their latest irons, wedges, drivers and fairways for both men and ladies and as always these are available for full demo on course.

The New Ladies PING GLe arrived today and are a real improvement on what was the best selling and performing range across the board on everything. They have taken the best parts of last season's clubs and really improved all features. Most importantly, I think, they have addressed the biggest concern in the ladies market and changed the colour from white as that was the only issue in the last few years with the product. Now it is not only going to perform well, it is going to look great as well. We have a full demo kit in every club so please come in and ask to try this.

Also the New PING Glide 2.0 wedge is in stock with all lofts available. This is your most up to date wedge available in the market place with all the characteristics of the top spinning wedges from year gone by. PING have added two extra grooves and also added a change in the angle of the groove cut to promote the desired ball flight and control. These wedges will be retailing at €149.00 but we will be doing an opening offer in store of buy one get the second for 50% discount. This is only on stock items.

The new TaylorMade M1 & M2 family are well into the market place after only a week from release and we have had some great positive feedback on their performance. It would be hard to better than what went on last year but it looks as if they really have improved these clubs. They are lighter with the retention of control in the shaft and in the club head resulting in more clubhead speed and distance. Take one out for a trial this weekend, we will not be beaten on price on any product. This will be retailed in most places at €399 M2 and €549 M1, we will be selling at €340 and €480 on any stock item.

We have still a great stock of mens and ladies club wear in store with and without the club crest. This would be a great time to come in and pick up a bargain before the new season stock comes in. we are currently still selling our new knitwear from L&S at 2 for €100. We also have some jumpers from Glenbrae reduced from €80 to €50. These are running out so come in and get ready for the year ahead.

Club news

The club is really on a high after the presentation on the new course and it is the topic of conversation with everyone at the club. On top of that the board of management have really started to advance a plan for all aspects of the club going forward and over the next few months we will be preparing a business plan for presentation and adoption by the membership. These are exciting times to be a member at Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club, and this has been shown by the uptake of new membership in the month of January.

Don't forget that two weeks on Saturday (18th February) will be the Captains Drive In so hopefully the sun will shine and the season can get off to real good start.

Coaching news

The weather and other things have not been kind to us in last few days disrupting our coaching schedule and it hopefully it starts to pick up coming into February and beyond. Last week we worked on the shots in and around the green with both the juniors and the ladies and we will be developing this further next week with extending it out to longer approach shots to the greens. Throughout these few lessons at this time of the year we are working mostly on creating a consistent strikes that will lead all the way through your swing. At times we lose focus on what creates a good golf shot and how it actually happens. Golfers of all abilities become so result orientated they loose the basic method to create the proper shot. That will be the theme of all that I will teach this late winter/early spring so that the season ahead your golf will one step ahead of where we traditionally are coming into the season.

In regard to any coaching aspect or if you are simply looking for a quick tip that might sort out an issue please come in for a quick chat. I really enjoy talking about people's games and how to get improvement.
