Members news

It's a new year in the shop and things are really starting to get exciting with the members information evening coming up on Monday. This will be the first chance for all the members to get a chance to see the proposals for the long term development of the course, ask questions, and really get a feel for what is going on in the background at this moment. There has been a lot of chat and speculations, but if you can attend this it will be a chance to see and hear first hand from the architect what is proposed. The meeting will start at 8pm and all categories of members are welcome to attend.

Shop news

In the shop we are coming into a real busy time with the launch of two ne products at the end of this month from the big players, Callaway and TaylorMade with the new Epic series and new M1/M2 all dropping into the shop. These will be available for test on course and are eagerly awaited. The Callaway Epic will feature a new design inside of the head that will bolt the top and bottom of the club together making sure that the full impact of the shop is through the hit loosing no power through the club head expanding the wrong direction. This has been a few years in development and brings the properties of the old rebound face technology back without the need for the thin face. Rory has been testing this driver and indeed put it into play last week in South Africa.

The new offerings from TaylorMade in the M1/M2 range is merely a development on the driver that took the market place by storm in 2016. They have taken the product and simply made it better by making the head much lighter through use of more graphite in the crown and still bringing the same mass behind the ball at impact. This will go all the way through the club making sure the new product retains the same swing weight and balance as last years product while also returning even more speed and distance of the clubhead.

PING are also stepping into the market place with new product for the incoming season. We will see a full new range of ladies drivers, fairways and irons in the collection. These have merely taken all the good properties of the last Rhapsody series and brought in new improved cosmetic features that really enhance the looks of such a good strong product already. We will have a full set available for trial in the shop from the first week in February so please come in and ask if you would like to try this product. For the Men there is a new iron set of i200 which have all the feel and looks the iBlade but slightly bigger with so much more forgiveness. This will be a joy of an iron to hit and the feel out of any PING iron simply cannot be matched.

They have also brought a new glide wedge for 2017, adding an extra two grooves, increasing the groove angle as well to create so much more spin on the ball. The big thing in this wedge is that they have also reduced the size of this wedge to the players eye, resulting in much more traditional look to it at set up.

Coaching news

Our ladies group lessons have started up for the next few months but have changed to a Tuesday morning at 11am rather than Wednesday. As the nights start to lengthen we will introduce an evening lessons well. Next week we will be working on chipping and putting and will be based around the putting green and chipping green.

The juniors have started back up as well with our lessons at 4-5pm on a Tuesday and Thursday as well as 1-2pm on a Saturday. Next week we will be working on the short game as well with the juniors.

Remember it is only 4 weeks till the real start to the season with our Captains drive in set for Saturday 18th February so time to get ready for what should be a really busy year ahead at the club.
