Dear member,

The Laytown & Bettystown golf club choir, which was hugely successful last year, will resume after the summer break on Tuesday 20th September at 8 pm. We are seeking both ladies and gentlemen and instrumentalists, so if you can sing or play, please come along and join in the fun.

Pros news

In the shop this week the sale continues on our summer stock with a refresh of the t-shirts and outerwear that is on offer. These are going well and once they sell through we will be right in the middle of our Autumn/Winter season that is starting to find itself into our stock. Even though it has been 25 degrees outside this week. Keep watching the sale rails as there will be new product added to it in next few weeks. In anticipation of the new season with a selection of club jumpers in lambswool and merino as well as winter lined products.

At this moment we are fully stocked on the outerwear that you will need as the days close in and it get a bit cooler. In mens and ladies there is a full new stock of both Galvin Green and ProQuip waterproof suits for all seasons. These are two very high quality products at very competitive prices that will not be seen anywhere else. Please call into the shop for all prices, you will be surprised at how affordable the very best of products are compared to what you will see online from our competitors. Base layering is available in store with warm products available for both ladies and mens in the Galvin range. Keep playing and enjoy it by keeping warm and also staying free enough to swing club properly.

This weekend we will also have the Callaway tour suit in three different colours on a clearance price of €199 while the stock lasts on it. This suit also carries a 3 year waterproof guarantee and is everything that you could want in both looks and performance.

Just because we are coming into the winter there will be no slowdown in new products coming into the shop. The new PING limited edition Vault putters are now in the shop and we will be replenishing our Scotty Cameron selection in the next few weeks.

With the work on the greens finished this would be a good time to look at the most important club in the bag in anticipation of the return of perfect putting surfaces in a few weeks.

There are new products on the market from Callaway with the new Steelhead XR irons that are available for order after their release last week and will prove to be a very, as always, important addition to the range. These are available in both ladies and gents, so come in for a chat about the potential gains in performance from these new products.

October 21st will be the arrival of the new 917 product from Titleist. When this company releases new product it is always a welcome addition to the market place. Over the last period of time Titleist, along with PING, have been at the forefront of product stability with the new products coming onto the market place as merely a development of the previous product. This gives the consumer (and the retailer) extreme confidence in the product that has arrived and been replaced. Titleist started their "D/9" series drivers back in the early 2000's, no co-incidence along with PING's "G" range, and have constantly strived to just develop their winning formulas. At times these two companies' products may seem a little 'boring' in comparison to the bright lights and advertising campaigns of their competitors, but their product more than holds up in all testing and also holds the market place value in resale value for used goods.

The launch of other companies' drivers normally sees the immediate drop in value of previous models, but this is not the case on the new 917. The present 915 is an excellent driver and will probably continue to stay in the bag of many tour players long after launch of 917, just as 913 and 910 before. We have a few of these left in stock at a discounted price of €300 against the original selling price of €449 and along with these drivers will be offering a dozen titleist balls of your choice. There are only a few left so do not miss out, if you purchase a new 915 between now and the 917 launch and decide that you would want to upgrade to the new product we will allow you the €300 euro credit against the new club on a trade in, and you will still get to keep the balls!

Coaching news

Our lessons are continuing for the juniors as over the summer and there has been an increase in attendance with the return to school and normality returning to families routines after the long summer break. Next week we will be on the putting green working on both putting and chipping as so many of the juniors golf swings are now starting to hold up consistently, the club has a bright future ahead and this does not happen by accident. The Junior committee led by Denis, Brian, Mary, Tom, Kathleen and Sean put in so much work behind the scenes in what can be an unnoticed and unappreciated job, and I wish to thank them for all the help and support that they have given me in my first season at the club.

The girls' lessons that were meant to start last Saturday, but were washed out, will be on this week at 10.30 and will run for 6 weeks weather dependant. Our next ladies group lessons will take place on Wednesday 28th September at 11am and then at 6pm in the evening. During the winter I will switch the evening lessons to a Saturday or Sunday afternoon depending on what suits the best.

On a coaching side coming into the winter, one of the most important things to look at for the enjoyment of the game and your improvement, would be the state of the grips on your golf clubs. When the weather turns cold and nasty we all tend to grip the clubs a bit tighter which can be detrimental to our game. A news set of grips, they don't have to be excessive in price can make a huge improvement. Also the introduction of a very modern trend in thermal and wet gloves, particularly in pair, can see your game hold up no matter what the weather is like. Come in and get your full set of irons re- gripped for as little as €50.

Club news

Lastly I would like to congratulate Carol Wickham on the recent success at the Irish ladies European Team Championships in Poland at which the Irish team came out winners with Carol Being unbeaten at the matchplay stages. Last weekend unfortunately the North Leinster Mixed were beaten in the final by Delvin Castle at Headfort but had out in a great effort to get there and congratulations to all involved in this event.
