Firstly can I wish Rachel and Elle all the best for next week's inter pros at Slieve Russell for the ladies and girls team and also Eugene and Thomas all the best for the mens team at Fota Island. This is a great honour to have 4 members playing at such a high level in Irish golf showing a real bright future for the club at all levels.
In the shop this week we have a new stock of ladies Nike shoes and will soon have the clothing to match up. We have the new Nike soft and ladies ball retailing at €22 a dozen along with the RZN tour ball that will sit easily alongside the Pro-V1 in performance at €55 a dozen. I know it is the start of the supposed warm weather, but there is a lot of rain still floating around. We have recently taken delivery of our new range of winter waterproofs and wind/warm wear from ProQuip for both ladies and men and will be selling these at pre-season silly prices for the coming few months. Just ask of of us if you are interested in a pre winer purchase as we have them stored away but are fully available. The new season Galvin Green outerwear will be arriving at end of July/Start of August, It is hard to believe that we are even thinking about the winter at the start of July, but it is on its way.
This is a great time to be thinking of changing your clubs/ bags etc as we are right in the middle of the season and have plenty of offers on stock that is in the shop. There is a full range of all styles of Odyssey and PING putters along with drivers, irons and wedges from all the manufacturers. We will not be beaten on prices anywhere on shop stock so come in and have a chat if you are looking to change and would like to try something new.
There is a shop sweep started for the upcoming Open Championship in 2 weeks' time with first prize of a new FW3 Powakaddy, second prize a Titleist golf bag and a lovely pair of Callaway shoes for third. Entry is in the shop for €5 and get in quick before the sheets fill up. This will be a totally random draw made the night before the open although Evan and Aaron apparently have already drawn Jordan Spieth and Jason Day.
I look forward to my first Professional prize this weekend for the men with a full timesheet and also want to thank all the ladies that played in my prize last Sunday and Monday. It has been a great honour to become the club professional at L&B and hope to celebrate many more in the future and I look forward to the presentation on Saturday night for all the prize winners and players.
Senior Cup Mens
L&B took part in the qualifiers in Senior Cup in County Louth Golf Club last weekend.
After a tough match versus Dundalk in round one L&B came out on top. Special mention to David Foy, he was the last match out and was 2 down with four holes to go and won the match on the 18th to win 3/2.
L&B completely controlled the next match versus Headfort with a comfortable winning margin of 4/1 which brought us into a mouth-watering semi- final against County Louth. Their team played exceptional golf on their own course ably led by our likable shop assistant Evan Farrell to win 4/1. Indeed, it was Evan who had to birdie the 20th hole to claim victory for County Louth against Royal Tara in the final. They now go on to represent our region in the Leinster Finals which takes place in Laytown & Bettystown on the 27th and 28th of August, unfortunately Evan has to work in the shop that weekend.
Many thanks for the large support over the weekend, a particular thanks to everyone that was involved in the backup team, caddies, ball spotters etc, it was greatly appreciated by the team.
We now look forward to Barton Shield Leinster Finals which take place in Howth on the 29th and 30th of July. We have lost Stephen Barry since winning the qualifiers as he has turned professional, but we have gained two of Ireland's top amateurs in Robbie Cannon and Eugene Smith to strengthen our team even further. Your support again would be much appreciated.

Pace of Play
Player Behaviour:
- Being Aware of Position on the Course
Players need to be aware of their groups' position on the course, and how they are impacting on the pace of play of other groups. The basic advice in this regard is that if a group keeps up with the group in front, the players in that group will rarely be accused of slow play. Players should always be looking forward to ensure that they are maintaining a good position in relation to the group in front, for example, making sure that they do not have an empty par 4 hole in between them. If ground has been lost to the group in front, then all the players in the group should take responsibility for making up that ground as quickly as possible.
- Allowing Faster Groups Play Through.
If a group cannot keep its position on the course for whatever reason, and is delaying the group behind, then it should invite the group behind to play through so that group can play at the pace it is capable of. Sometimes if a number of groups on the course are playing slowly, playing through does not always achieve its objective, but it remains good etiquette.
