This week in shop we are gearing up the summer with a full range of Under Armour, FootJoy and Callaway clothing. Along with this we are fully stocked on headwear which can be an essential piece of equipment for when the sun comes out. Too many of us forget this and although it is a great fashion accessory it is also a very important piece for protection from the sum and aids concentration on the course. This weekend we will be giving away a free Callaway hat worth €25 with any summer T-Shirt from Under Armour, Callaway or FootJoy.
Getting the stock right in the shop for the seasons and years ahead will be my priority and I want to give the members exactly what they are looking for so if there is something that we are missing please come in and tell us. We will try……
The course is really starting to take shape with a bit of heat so get out and really get started for the season. Next week we have the Barton Shield which the guys have been putting in a huge effort for so good luck to all involved and hopefully a successful season at the top end of the club. The Ladies were very unfortunate last weekend to get knocked out of the senior cup at an early stage but came up against one of the strong teams too early in the competition in the shape of Miltown Golf Club. There will be better time ahead for this group and much more success in the future.
The junior coaching is really taking off on a Tueday/Thurdays and Saturday. We will be starting ladies and mens group sessions from the middle of June so will keep all informed before we start.
The panel for the Pierce Purcell can be found below.
The names are: Danny Brady, Richard Byrne, Con Crowley, Danny Doyle, David Doyle, John Dyas, Michael Harte.
There is a qualifying round in County Meath Golf Club, Trim on Saturday 18th June. The semi finals and final takes place the following day, also in County Meath. Practice and trials are currently under way with 100% commitment from all the panel.
Draws for Wickham Trophy, McDonnell Cup and Club Championship have been posted on the noticeboards. All fees to be paid before matches commence.
Club Cups and Trophies:
The history of Cups and Trophies that are played for during the year in the club is being gathered at the moment. Members with any background knowledge of same are asked to contact any of the Competitions Committee.
Wickham Trophy:
In 1979, the Committee of L&B asked the Wickham family to sponsor a Perpetual Trophy in memory of their father Gerry Wickham, a long standing member. The format decided upon for the competition was a Mixed Foursomes Matchplay which has proved to be a very sociable and popular event. The inaugural winners in 1979 were Jack Sheridan and Madge Mc Donough.
Finally I would like to take the opportunity to wish our President Tommy Weir the best for his competition this Sunday.
